    Battery Types:

Lithium vs Traditional Golf Cart Batteries

    Lithium Batteries

    Pros

    • Longer Lifespan: Lithium batteries typically last 10-12 years for new carts, expect about 5-years for used carts. This is significantly longer than traditional golf cart batteries.
    • Lighter Weight: They are much lighter, about 80% lighter than traditional, which can improve the golf cart's efficiency and handling.
    • Faster Charging: Lithium batteries charge much faster than lead-acid batteries.
    • Consistent Power: They provide consistent power output throughout their discharge cycle.
    • Lower Maintenance: Lithium batteries require little to no maintenance.
    • Higher Efficiency: They have a higher energy density and efficiency, leading to better performance and longer travel distances per charge.

Note: It costs roughly $2500 for a battery replacement if you ever need to cross that road.

    Cons

    • Higher Initial Cost: The upfront cost of lithium batteries is higher than lead-acid batteries.
    • Complex Management: They require a Battery Management System (BMS) to ensure safe operation.
    • Sensitive to Temperature: Lithium batteries can be less efficient and potentially damaged in extreme temperatures.
    • Recycling Challenges: Recycling lithium batteries is more complex and less established compared to lead-acid batteries.

    Traditional Batteries for Golf Carts

    Pros

    • Lower Initial Cost: Lead-acid batteries are generally cheaper upfront compared to lithium batteries. Though, by the time you buy replacement batteries, by the time you're ready to retire your cart, you would've spent the same amount as you would've by just buying a lithium powered golf cart.
    • Established Technology: They have been in use for a long time, making their technology well understood and trusted.
    • Easier Recycling: Lead-acid batteries have a well-established recycling infrastructure.
    • Availability: They are widely available and can be easily replaced or serviced.

    Cons

    • Shorter Lifespan: Lead-acid batteries typically last 1.5 - 3.5 years, which is shorter than lithium batteries.
    • Heavier Weight: They are much heavier, which can reduce the efficiency and handling of the golf cart.
    • Longer Charging Time: Lead-acid batteries take longer to charge compared to lithium batteries.
    • High Maintenance: They require regular maintenance, including checking water levels and cleaning terminals.
    • Decreased Efficiency: They have lower energy density and efficiency, resulting in shorter travel distances per charge.
    • Voltage Drop: Power output decreases as the battery discharges, leading to reduced performance near the end of the charge cycle.

    Lithium Golf Cart Info

Q: How fast can a lithium golf cart go?

    A: Expect up to 25mph

Q: How long can I drive a lithium golf cart on a single charge?

A: Expect about 30-miles depending on how and where you drive it.

Q: Can I just top off my lithium battery at night after I've parked it?

    A: Yes, you can.

Q: Does the lithium battery keep charging even after it hits 100%?

A: It does not. It has "Smart Charging" that helps keep the battery healthier for longer by not keep charging while the battery is at 100%. This also increases fire safety.

Q: What is the price difference between a Lithium Cart and Traditional Electric?

A: Generally, expect a lithium cart to cost $2,000-$2,500 more than a traditional electric upfront but over time the traditional electric will cause more headaches because the battery will have to be replaced on a more frequent basis.
